New York, NY - Whites Decline in City

New York, NY - The number of whites in New York City has been shrinking the last five years, while the Asian and Hispanic populations have been climbing, according to new figures released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Over one-third of New Yorkers - 3 million, or 36.6 percent - were not born U.S. citizens. That's the nation's third-highest rate, behind Los Angeles (40 percent) and San Jose, Calif. (38 percent).
And at 8 million, New York remains the unquestionable titan of U.S. cities in population - doubling that of No. 2 Los Angeles.

The survey found that the white population has sagged by about 100,000, to 2.7 million, since the 2000 Census - and by 1.5 million since the 1990 Census.
