Monticello, NY - Bears Roaming Freely
Monticello, NY - A 425-pound male bear was caught in a culvert trap by the DEC at Moonlight Bungalow Colony on Rubin Road near Monticello. This is the same colony where a 205-pound female bear and two 8-month-old cubs were chased away from the trash bins last week. The DEC says the mother bear had returned, and she was also caught in the culvert trap.
Not far from there, a marauding bear killed and started to eat a 350-pound bull calf early yesterday near Callicoon, the calf had been tied to a tree at the farm of Jeff Kays on Gable Road.
Wildlife technician Carl Lindsley went to the farm and found the bear's tracks and the calf partially eaten, the bear had tried to drag the carcass into a field but couldn't because of the rope.
Lindsley said that because the bear has attacked livestock, Kays or an employee can legally shoot the bear without a permit if it returns.
The other bears that got trapped, got the same treatment from the DEC: They were tagged, pepper-sprayed to dissuade them from returning, and released.

What a pitty these bears were in Pine tree Bungalow Colony the whole summer as pets Where they were fed and given affection by the people there. Now that they and GIGO are gone they have no where to go.
Next year they are going to Brazils place- we will truly miss them

When the bears killed a baby they told us they were harmless. But when a bear kills livestock the farmer has the RIGHT TO SHOOT THE BEAR. This is AMERICA.
