Vestal, NY - Binghamton University Condemns Racist Graffiti
Vestal, NY - The president of Binghamton University says campus police are looking for suspects responsible for several incidents of "hateful messages" and graffiti.
Lois DeFleur issued a letter to students, calling the incidents "very serious."University police chief John Schwartz says his officers are collecting evidence and seeking witnesses in the incidents, which happened in a residence hall. The messages included swastikas and racially-offensive words.
A residential director says the graffiti incidents have caused some students to be fearful. She says the incidents may give the impression that the campus "isn't as welcoming" as some of the students had believed.
