Jerusalem, Israel - Bleach War Against Immodest Women

Jerusalem, Israel - More and more women in the Geula neighborhood have been complaining of being sprayed with bleach.

For Instance one vendor at one of the local clothing stores said she felt something wet dripping on her shirt as she was walking down the street. At first she thought someone poured water over her, but later realized that she had been sprayed with bleach. “This is Bitul Torah, “she said. “Don’t they have anything else to do but look at women and determine whether they are modest or not? I thought we should perhaps organize a demonstration and declare, ‘we are modest and do not want to be burned,’ but obviously this did not materialize.”

The attacks mark an escalation of the religious battle against what they refer to as the ‘promiscuity’ on the haredi streets and the infiltration of ‘fashion’ that often times does not correspond with the strict dress codes in the community. Clothes that may seem modest to most people are considered to be ostentatious if they have shiny or colorful elements to them. Similar claims are made against women who wear overly-tight outfits.

Until recently they focused their battle against the clothing stores: Last week yeshiva students arrived at a women’s clothing store on Amos Street and destroyed thousands of shekels worth of merchandise with bleach. The store was shut down immediately and a men’s clothing store was set up in its place.
Another one was burned down and according to the salesperson, a yeshiva student paid a visit to the store and demanded that she “stop selling immodest clothes” and even warned her that “stores are going to be set on fire tonight.” The following morning she learned that a women’s clothing store on Hagai Street, just two streets from where she worked, was set ablaze.

On the evening the store was set on fire a rally was held at Jerusalem’s Sabbath Square during which Rabbi Yaakov Sofer spoke of the “spiritual deterioration of the Geula neighborhood." The rabbi said “those stores should be closed down – to show the entire world that we are Jews. This is the last place remaining on earth; if it is destroyed, the whole world will be annihilated.”

Why do reportedly frum, ehrlich men have to act this way? Do you think this is how Hashem wants an observant Jew to act toward another Jew? Destroying property, embarassing a person in public, creating a massive chillul Hashem, these wonderful midos sit well with somebody???

Coercive tactics such as these backfire badly. This strong arm method of handling situations that appear to threaten a frum way of life is definitely a significant reason why so many frum people are going off the derech.

There they go again, I learnt in the Mirer Yeshiva for one yearlast year when I was a Bucher and again and again I saw with my eyes the Chillul Hashem that these hooligans do, is this the way that our Rabbunim wanted? in which sefer does it say that you are allowed to destroy people's propertites or attack people on the street.Unfortunatly these acts are done by Leidegers that do not learn or daven erlich, they go dressed like Frume people but are far from being Frum, a Heilege Tzadik once said that Frim is the roishe teives of ''Feel Rishas In Veinig Mitzvos''.It just comes to prove my point that the Frume with the long Payos down to the floor and with their big wide hats are nothing but garbage.I have a little advice for them go to Beis Medrash and learn and if you have free time at night go to the gym and take care of your bodies, and I guarantee that you will not be busy looking at womans clothing .If I was there now and my wife would be harrased by these Leidegeiers, I would rip them apart with my bare hands, and believe me I am capable of doing it..

'chasidstud 'is right, you are not allowed al pi halacha to destroy other peoples property or to attack people, but if somebody attacks you you may protect yourself, he was right on target by saying that if his wife was attacked he would rip them apart with his bare hands. It says''Habu Lhurguch Hashcem Lihurguch''Al achas kama vkama if you are actually attacked..

are you for real?you want to compare our Heilige Tanayim and Amorim to lowly leidegeiers? you can say Lehavdel a thousand times before you compare our Heilige Amoroim who did everything that is oisgehalten 100 percent al pi torah and these leidegeiers that are completly empty from Torah. They only do it to have fun and make a Chillul Hashem, and like this they have an oppurtunity to look at and harrass women..it can be said to you the loshon of the Gemara''Afre Lipime''

Aside from the issue that this self appointed bleach patrol is wrong has anybody thought of the danger?
G-d forbid a squirt of bleach enter the eye the results are very bad.
Imagine if somebody is about to squirt bleach and somebody, perhaps the intended victim, pushed their hand and the bleach goes flying.

These lowlifes are often spurred on by Shabak and police infiltrators - they are shababnikim who do not learn in any yeshiva or have any emunah.

I don't think the Chofetz Chaim would have acted this way, or any other gedolim of the previous generations. If someone is upset about the immodesty, let him parade around in front of the stores selling such clothes and wear a sandwich board proclaiming his protest, like Reb Yaakov Yosef Herman ZT"L would have done. Destroying someone's property is Assur, no matter what. You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. In other words, these Kano-im can try to educate those immodest people with kind words, not with destruction.

Sure, and next you'll accuse the Jews of causing 9/11. Stop believing every stupid narishkeit you hear and accept the fact that these out of control aminals are the result of bad leadership and their shiftless, wasted lives.

Bleach is a potentially dangerous chemical substance, particularly if it is (presumably accidentally) sprayed in the eyes. Anyone who sprays bleach at someone, for whatever reason, no matter what the SUPPOSED "halachic" justification, is an idiot and deserves anything that happens to him. Self-defense is a human right. I hope one of those woman is next time carrying mace -- and when she gets "bleached", she gives the idiot a nice big shot of mace, right in his face. Or better yet, she uses a taser "stun gun" on him. That will fix him. I will say no mi sheberach for the chasid sotah (pious idiot).

Whoever writes on this blog is a HIPOCRIT to speak about Tzenius and to give the right to do such awful things as throwing bleach or burning stores

  • At 9:44 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

why are they a hypocrite if they are writing on this blog. they are just commenteing on the fact that there are better ways to act out your disapproval of the clothing than throwing dangerous chemicals on them, these people have nothing better to do with their lives so they bother everyone else. if they really have a problem with the choice of clothing in their neighborhood than do something other than potentially causeing someone to go blind and ruining a persons parnassa.

THE WOMEN DONT LIKE WHAT THE CHARIEDIM ARE DOING.
THE CHARIEDIM DONT LIKE WHAT THE WOMEN ARE DOING.
    SO IT IS EVEN STEVEN
    NOW THE WOMEN COMPLAIN.
    NEXT THE CHARIEDIM WILL COMPLAIN.
AND THEN WHEN WILL IT STOP?
MAYBE THE ONE WHO STARTED SHOULD STOP FIRST.
THE THE RESPONDERS SHOULD STOP ALSO.
THERE ARE SIGNS ALL OVER THE CHARIEDY AREA TO COME HERE IN MODEST ATTIERE, IT SHOULD BE RESPECTED.
SINCE THE WOMEN CAME TO THE CHARIEDIM NEIGHBERHOOD AND THE CHARIEDIM DID "NOT" GO SPRAYING TO THE NON CHARIEDY NEIGHBORHOOD I THINK THAT CHARIEDIM ARE MORE FAIR IN THIS CASE.
    THIS IS MY OWN OPINION.

  • At 10:33 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

thats ridiculous, it has nothing to do with who is fair or not in this case, yes the woman who come to the chareidy neighborhoods should be more respectful and careful about their attire when they come in, yet if they dont it is a free country where if a woman walks into a neighborhhod she should not have to worry that she just might get bleach thrown onto her. when irreligious woman walk into boro park wearing immodest clothing ..they might get dirty looks but they definitly are not harassed. the chareidim do not OWN their neighborhood, yes they have teh right to put up signs and do things in a peaceful manner they do not have the right to do aggressive things

With logic like that, it's a wonder you aren't in Mea Shearim spraying women with bleach. Sadly, another waste of a perfectly good Jewish education.

They are actually the product of an overeager tshuva factory movement in Israel that takes ex-cons, scares them witless, and turns them into instant baalei tshuva on the outside who are still criminals on the inside. They don't really find a place in the frum community, and they demonstrate their supposed kanoius with this kind of nonsense. However, they do NOT act alone, nor are they condoned by any leader in any part of the community who is not a plant.

KLAL YISROEL HAS THE OBLIGATION OF "KOL YISROEL ARIEVIM" EVRY JEW IS A GUARANTOR AND RESPONSIBLE FOR EACH OTHER NOT ONLY "GASHMIOS" PHISICLY AND IN A CIVIL MANOR BUT ALSO SPIRITUALY. MEANING IF ONE VIOLAIES THE JEWISH LAW, THE PUNISHMENT REACHES EVRYBODY.
TALMID BAVLI BROCHES "PUNISHMENT IS CAUSED ONLY BY VIOLATORS (RESHOIM) BUT STARTS ONLY BY RIGHTOUS (ZADIKIM) PEOPLE.
THE CHARIDIM (ZADIKIM) HAVE A RIGHT TO PROTECT THEMSELF FROM A PUNISHMENT.

Right! and therefore we ought to take these Mishigaim and deprogram them before they cause major further Chilul Hashem, and negatively influence others, with their acts of Violence. They turn people off of being frim with their mode of behavior.

What a lovely bunch of people. They are role models for the world-They are perfect Toiredik examples of "Or Lagoyim".

It was definitely wrong what they did it's not our derech. I know the store it wasn't the best but it wasn't the worss either. We definitely have a lack of Tznius today. There is a VERY BIG problem today H-ashem Yerachem. We have to do Teshuva & fast. Then also what a lot of pepole write in was loshon hora which is also against the Torah.
