Lakewood, NJ - NAACP Leader Wants Audit

Lakewood, NJ - A local NAACP leader delivered a letter to school board members during their board meeting, in which he called for a state investigation into district finances.
"A full audit of questionable business practices should be demanded, leaving no stone left unturned," wrote James Waters, in a letter to the state commissioner of education. The letter went on to state that: "The minority cultural experience is not embraced or understood by this politically driven insensitive school board."

Not all of the school board members received a copy of Waters' letter before the meeting, though. "I've been spending a lot of money on OPRA (Open Public Records Act) requests," Waters quipped, explaining to the board why he only handed out two copies.
The board members did not address Waters' letter during its meeting.

The local NAACP chapter in September called on the state to take over the school district's special-education program, claiming it discriminates against minorities. Meanwhile, school board President Chet Galdo declined to comment on Waters' letter after the meeting.
