The incidnet is believed to the latest flare-up between warring rabbis and their followers in an ongoing power struggle for control of Ponevezh, a training ground for the intellectual elite of the Lithuanian yeshiva world.

The rabbis are at odds over who is the rightful heir to Ponevezh. Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, the most respected halachic authority of haredi Lithuanian Jewry who is based in Jerusalem, has expressed his support for Markovitz.

In contrast, most rabbis in Bnei Brak, a mostly ultra- Orthodox city just southeast of Tel Aviv, have publicly supported Kahneman, who also has the backing of the veteran teaching staff of the yeshiva.

The power struggle is for control over the campus, which includes prime real estate in the heart of Bnei Brak and the yeshiva's prestigious name.

That name has been tarnished as the infighting between the two camps has been ongoing over the past few years. Some of the incidents include contracted beatings performed by professional goons, break-ins, confiscation of property and the use of firecrackers to disrupt Torah classes.

The work of "Rav" Shach, the hatemonger continued!

"Rav" Shach always built himself up by pitting people against each other. Now here's the results.

At this moment in time, all I have to go on are some 3rd hand speculations. I am attempting to withhold judgment until more verified facts become available.

If indeed it is a Jew-on-Jew act of violence, then it is, of course, very, very disturbing.

Regardless of what did or did not happen, I am concerned for the peace and stability of the people of Bnei Brak. It is not a very long leap from throwing an incendiary device into the Ponevezh Yeshiva to rioting and burning the businesses and homes on Rabbi Akiva Street.

At this point in time, the various groups and factions in Bnei Brak need to see and hear their various leaders come together to condemn the violence, and to make some positive statements to bring the diverse community together.

Where are you, leaders of Bnei Brak?

stop this name calling as "litvak" and not chassids...look at what happened in 770...there wass literally physical attacks and people sent to hospiital....the bitter truth maybe that all the verbal abuse that one group of yidden did to the other group in the past decades have given their fruits now...and we see the fruits of violence in all these circles...whhether it is satmar lubavitch litvaks etc. time to stop the divisiviness!

  • At 10:04 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

The Chassidim do act violently against each other. Satmar has done so in the past, Kasho also. So, don't say the Chasidim aren't rotzchim. Yidden in general have to become more tolerant of each other and not hate domeone who disagrees with them.

You want to fight like the Yishmaelim, fine. Just change the name of the yeshiva.

There is a diffrence between violent and rotzchim. between loosing control and PLANING to kill, between a bal habays and someone claiming to be bnei tora, and again were are all the mochim CHILUL HASHEM.

...Moshiach can come either because we are Zocheh for it - or else (and I'm afraid this is becoming the case) the generation is slipping to such a low level, The Ribbono Shel Olam has to step in and save us. How sad that we can't seem to attain the level of actually being Zocheh for his coming...

to the person that wrote l'h against Rav Shach- do you have ANY yiras shamayim??? How can you talk like that? I am so apalled at how freely everyone talks without thinking twice about the consenquences after 120. Shame on all of you!

  • At 1:59 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

    Moshe,
whoever you are, I pity you. How are you not afraid of your din to speak about Rav Shach like that. I have no doubt you'll bren in gehenom for your words. I'm only surprised that all you others can listen to his blasphemous words and keep quiet.

33 Comments here and only 3 rebuked me for insulting the "gadol hador" "Rav" Shach.

It's funny that they rebuked me for insulting "Rav" Shach, yet not even one person denied that my comment, that "Rav" Shach built himself up through machlokes, is true!

We all know "Rav" Shach was a huge ba'al machlokes, and now "his" yeshiva is reaping the seeds he sowed.

  • At 3:31 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

    Moshe,

You obviously never met Rav Shach. He never acted as a baal machlokes. He used das torah to speak out against things that contradicted halacha, and rightfully so. His ill feelings were against behavior and never against a particular yid. Even Lubavs that would visit him expecting machlokes were shocked at his kind heart.

It's in-fighting like this that keep moshiach away and people like Moshe that keep moshiach even further away.

I must say, that while I don't agree with Moshe posting such things, I find the response very amusing. "...without thinking twice about the consenquences after 120", "...I have no doubt you'll bren in gehenom for your words", "...Anyone who can dare think of insulting our gedolim should have his yichus checked." It's amazing how, first of all, the only thing the first 2 posters can think of is burning. What happened to the here and now? What about what we are supposed to do in this world? Ever heard of bringing Moshiach? Isn't that the ultimate goal? Sitting in heaven or burning in hell isn't going to change that. Try a diferent approach. To the other person concerned with yichus, what does that have to do with the "kavod of a Gadol Hador?" Talk about random.
"Even Lubavs that would visit him expecting machlokes were shocked at his kind heart"- you obviously don't know much of the machlokes between Rav Shach and Lubavitch. I don't think you'll be able to find ONE person who can call himself a Lubavitcher that actually visited him... but I'm sure you've heard this from many Lubavitchers.
And finally, to all the people who stand there and berate "Moshe" for saying such disgusting things: why don't I see the same outrage when someone posts simillar, if not worse, things about the Lubavitcher Rebbe? Check the post about a fight in 770 and see the things people (if you can call them that) are saying about another holy man. In your bias, can you justify the abuse when it comes from the other side of the fence? I really do agree with your remarks on someone who shames a Gadol Hador, but please keep your own words in mind the next time you hear someone saying simillar things about a Chassidishe Gadol.

As we know see how utterly on target maran harav shach was in regards to chabad can anyone still question why he waged such a war against them

  • At 10:47 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Lashan Hara is the cause of most machlokes.... What a Godol says and how it is told over is very different. Pleople say things to fan the flames of hatred and to push their own agenda... I do not accept nor beleive any of this

  • At 11:42 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

It seems to me that people want to pontificate and point fingers. As someone else said, there are few facts here, and from reading the initial story I didn't get the idea it was "warring Litvishe factions." Machlokes is never good, even bringing a din torah to a non-Jewish court (read: Satmar) is a chilul HaShem.
However, maligning a Talmid Chacham, and a gadol, is a dangerous thing, especially when you're saying something you shouldn't say about anybody! Take this as my protest Moshe, but I'm not condemning you, I'm disappointed in our value system that people don't think about others and are not dan l'kaf zchus. To the other posts, yes, money and prestige are blinders and unfortunately even tzaddikim and pikchim can be affected by the bribery of fame and money. The Torah tells us it's so, so why do we blame the victims of this disease instead of trying to eradicate the need for kavod from ourselves and our society?

In response to allowing himself to be referred to as Moshiach (while still alive) Rav Shach said of the Lubavitcher "Pito pas akum, v'Yano yayin Nesech"!
Look what became of the Lubobs!!!

-- um, look what's become of Ponovezh?
