Rockland County, NY - Chevra Hatzoloh Will Not Get Funding They Requested
Rockland County, NY - Due to the county's financial challenges, nonprofit agencies are taking a hit in the 2007 Rockland County budget proposal.
County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef said "A lot of new agencies we didn't fund this year," and most of the returning nonprofit's weren't given increases, he said. The total expenditure for nonprofit's is down about $455,000 from what the county spent this year.
Chevra Hatzoloh ambulance service, one of the only new contract agencies to be listed for the 2007 budget, asked for $100,000 but is scheduled to get only $10,000.
Last year, the county approved $7.2 million for contract agencies, but as the year went on it spent nearly $7.37 million on them. The Legislature now will discuss the budget and must approve a version and send it to Vanderhoef by Dec. 7. He can then veto or approve any changes. The Legislature can then seek to override.
