NYC Population Now More Than 8,168,000
Mayor Bloomberg says he's been able to convince the U.S. Census Bureau that the city's population rose two percent since 2000, and is now more than 8,168,000.
The city said the Census undercounted several neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. and the extra population will mean an additional $25 million in federal aid to the city over the next five years.
The mayor says zone changes which allow former commercial properties to now include housing were not considered by the Census Bureau.
