A Cigar Bar in Williamsburg Brooklyn NY

Velvet Cigar Lounge is planning to open in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, next to the famed Peter Luger Steak House, on May 21. This establishment in which you can smoke cigars indoors has not only set up shop about a year and a half ago on the Lower East Side of the Big Apple, but it's also expanding to Brooklyn.

Velvet, says founder and owner Jason Alvator, acts like a cigar bar, offering wine and beer (no whiskey yet) for a price, a fireplace, humidors and places to sit and enjoy it all. However, in accordance with smoking ban regulations, the place qualifies as a retail tobacconist, says Alvator, by counting 50 percent of its revenue from the sale of cigars. This is accomplished, in part, through the on- and off-premises sale of an in-house brand of cigars, called Reserva Dominicana, which are rolled in the same room where cigar bar clientele smoke.

"I used to work in the Supreme Court during the summer when I was in college," said Alvator where he spent much of his time reading legal documents. Upon reading the smoking ban legislation, he noticed the loophole. "[Fifty percent of revenue from cigars] is defined as a retail tobacconist. There is nothing [in the regulations] that says you can't serve liqueur and charge for it, too."

Oh sure. Moving away will help. For what? P'ritzus? Let's see, try Kiryas Yoel. A real "sheltered" area, right? Wrong. Who from there doesn't go to Walmart? Better yet which Monroe Vabbel and meydilich don't go to Woodbury Commons shoppimg center. There's nothing "sheltered" about that place. It has every store you'll find in Manhattan.

Lakewood? Oh very heimish means very secure? Right. Heimishe meidel got assaulted (Hashem yerachem)recently. Oh, the Belzer Rebbe said ---- (see quote from 8:25pm Post). As if Israel has any less pritzus in the street than New York.
However, if you close your eyes to what's going on around you, then everything looks good from afar.

A well known Rosh Yeshiva ZT"L was asked by two individuals on different occasions if they were allowed to move to California to join a higher paying kollel. One was told yes, the other no. Later the two compared notes and wondered why each one received contradictory answers. They had someone go back to te Rosh Yeshiva and clarify the matter. He was told as follows (listen carefully): The one I told "yes" to, had asked about furthering his learning and being able to save money at the same time by going to L.A. which he could'nt do here. Nothing wrong with that. The one I said "no" to, asked if he may go to L.A., California - "a place of p'ritzus". Of course I said "no". He wanted a "heter" for P'ritzus. The other one was going to learn and wasn't focusing on the street. End of story. (As quoted in B'mechitzas Rabbeinu - hakdama.)

Children will be just fine if you don't make an isuue of it. Face reality. No yingerman today that was born in KJ is any less uneducated or "innocent" than his Williamsburg/BP cousins. To think otherwise is unrealistic.

all this places in Monroe are outside the village, to the contrary here in Williamsburg, they move in as our neighbors

Nebich. You're finding out we're still in Galus.
You will not control who lives in NYC.

Galus means you cannot control who is your neighbor no matter where you live. Brooklyn, Monsey, Lakewood. Even Skver found out recently when a house was repossesd by the bank and sold to a goy at auction.
And who exactly do you think you're keeping out by living "sheltered"?
When you're kids marry someone who doesn't conform to your strict standards will you allow the kehilla to push them out?
So start pushing out half of KJ now. All the trimmed beards - out. All the goyishe cars (SUV's) - out. All the Nushim vus fulgen nisht de takanus hatznius - out. Even those who lived there 25-30 years. Right. For sure. My friend, wer'e in a different world today.

There's nothing like a house up in the country. Thats true.
When city life gets to you, you head to the hills.
When Satmar Rebbe gets fed up with the hills where did he go? Miami Beach. Go my friend. Go wherever you think is better, but it's all in the mind.
