Meron, Israel - Lag Baomer Celebration To Attract Crowd Of 800,000 People
Meron, Israel - Police expect some 800,000 people to attend the celebration of Rabbi Shimeon Bar Yohai, which will take place at his grave on Mount Meron next Monday, and some 5,000 police officers will secure the annual event.
As of Sunday, new traffic regulations will be in place around the settlement of Meron near the Rabbi Bar Yohai's grave and a headquarters will be setup to help organizers coordinate the festivities.
During Lag Baomer, Israelis light bonfires symbolizing the fires lit by 2nd century Jewish rebels, who marked their temporary defeat of the Romans.
