Milan, Italy - Forty Graves Damaged In Jewish Cemetery
Milan, Italy - Vandals have damaged 40 graves in the Jewish cemetery, breaking and knocking down tombstones.
A local guard at the Musocco cemetery, on the north-west outskirts of the city, alerted police after discovering the damage.
Policemen searched the cemetery looking for signs or written words which might identify the authors of the act or explain its motivation. They said no anti-Semite symbols nor any sign of desecration were found. "This is obiouvsly not a nice episode," said Yasha Reibman, a spokesman for Milan's Jewish community. "But we need to know more about it before passing judgment."
Milan, with a population of about 1.2 million, has one of the largest Jewish communities in Italy, totaling some 7,000 people.
