STAT MedEvac Nears Milestone Of 100,000th Emergency Flight
Three and a-half-minutes, that's the average time for the pilot, flight nurse and flight paramedic of the STAT MedEvac team to receive a call, collect their gear and get airborne, heading to an on-scene incident, or transporting a patient from one facility to another. As the STAT MedEvac agency approaches its 100,000th recorded flight, expected later this summer.
STAT MedEvac is among the older flight EMS services in the country, the first of which emerged in the mid-1970s following the Vietnam conflict. The company now comprises 17 base sites across Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland and Ohio,
Among STAT's newest additions are night-vision goggles, which complement instruments onboard the aircraft that allow them to fly in poor weather conditions.
The averages is a couple calls each day, and this month falls in the middle of STAT's overall 17-base operation, with 40 calls answered so far.
