Tampa, FL - Monroe Man Subdues Airline Passenger Trying To Break Into Cockpit

Tampa, Fla. - A Monroe man aboard a Tampa-bound flight last night helped subdue a passenger who made a full-speed charge down the plane's aisle and tried to break into the cockpit, the man's wife said.

Adam Davisberg helped tackle the passenger, described as Neftali Alexander Laimendez, 24. He was reportedly traveling with his brother and was soon to be released from service in the U.S. Army after a recent deployment in Iraq.
Davisberg's wife, Monique, said her husband was en route to Tampa with their children to visit his parents. About five minutes before Delta Air Lines flight 1850 from LaGuardia Airport was to land in Tampa around 11 last night, Laimendez came rushing past Davisberg, who was sitting near the cockpit.
Laimendez reportedly charged the cockpit door twice, but was jumped by first-class passengers before he could try a third time. Another passenger first grabbed Laimendez and then Davisberg joined the fray, Monique Davisberg said.
She said another passenger, possibly the man's brother, called out that Laimendez was mentally ill and that he should be released. Monique Davisberg said her husband said there was no way he was going to let him go.

Laimendez was taken into custody for mental health evaluation. He could face criminal charges after that process is complete. The FBI is handling the case, the airport said.
