Bethesda, Maryland - Doctor Claims to Have Breakthrough Discovery on Cancer
Bethesda, Maryland - An amazing breakthrough in cancer treatment. It's still in the clinical trial stages, but so far its results have been promising. Right now, the treatment has been used on patients with Melanoma, a deadly skin cancer, that will kill nearly 8-thousand Americans this year.
The clinical trials are being held at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. That's where a cancer fighting pioneer by the name of Dr. Steven Rosenberg created a new way to attack cancer, by using the immune system. Doctors took the immune cells of 17 patients, and injected in them the genes of a virus, that would seek out tumors, and destroy the cancer. In 15 patients, the treatment didn't work, but in 2 patients, so far, the cancer appears to have completely disappeared. Dr. Rosenberg should know in a couple of weeks if the FDA has approved another clinical trial with an even more powerful gene therapy.
He's also looking to expand his treatment to lung cancer, ovarian cancer and prostate cancer.
