Brooklyn, NY - Good Police Work Leads to Suspect in Borough Park Break-In Horror

Borough Park, Brooklyn, NY - Police are questioning a suspect believed to be one of the two masked burglars who broke into the Boro Park, Brooklyn home of a wealthy couple, tied them up and cleaned them out of more than $200,000 in cash and jewels.

The NYPD were trying to determine if the burglars may have known that real-estate investor Wolf Sicherman, 55, and wife Sarah kept money in a safe in the third-floor bedroom of their Borough Park home.

On Monday night the safe was stuffed with cash because Sicherman was going to purchase a building the following day.
The masked duo, clad in black jumpsuits and armed with boxcutters, entered through a rear window and cut the electricity.
"They were working with small flashlights," said a neighbor and friend of the victims.
Police sources said the burglars encountered Sicherman, owner of nearby Sicherman Management Corp., on the stairwell and ordered him to open the safe.
He was so nervous he couldn't remember the combination, so his wife opened the safe. The couple were then tied with duct tape to a chair in the living room.
Before fleeing, the robbers "thanked the wife for being so nice," said a police source.

A woman chatting with a neighbor on the sidewalk said, "I saw two hooded guys coming out of the house getting into a white car."
Her friend became suspicious and wrote down the license plate of the getaway SUV and called BP Shomrim Patrol the local neighborhood watch group.
A few minutes later, "He [Sicherman] got himself free. She [Sarah] was shaking like a fish," said the witness.

U/D: 11:31
The NYPD have arrested Joseph Fiel, 30, and he was charged with breaking into the Brooklyn home then attacking and robbing the couple who live there. Fiel has been charged with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.
Police believe the suspects could have been tipped off by contractors who recently did work inside the home. Detectives have not ruled out the possibility the home was targeted because of its appearance.

    Was The Money Recovered?

In response to Annymous at 11:51, I am quite disturbed by your assumption.

Firstly, you do not know whether or not cash was taken. The police have not released that info, only the gossipers on vos-is-neias.

Secondly, suppose cash WAS taken, you do not know whether that money was intended to be used in the purchase of the building.

Thirdly, all these disparaging remarks are quite uncalled for.

You do not know Mr. Sicherman personally, but those that do can attest to the fact that he's a fine man, and an asset to the community - in more ways then one.

The news reported a home invasion. Instead of your sympathy, or perhaps honest reporting of actual news, you and the other "anonymous"'s on this board must dwell on all sorts of conjured, unfactual, fantasy. Such, can only be construed by an empty mind, and a bitter heart.

It was and is disheartening to see the 80 comments to the prior post concerning this invasion, with everyone offering their own rediculous assumptions and nonsense.

So take that elsewhere, as this is harrassment. And there is no need to look into what isn't, rather then concentrating on what is.

It is none of your business if he supports the eiruv, the medina, or anything else. If you want to make that an issue i bless you that they should hang you with the string that you trouble makers rip down!

I don't know whether or not he supports the eruv. But if he does:

    Ashrecha, Mr. Sicherman.

Because of people who made the eruv possible many yidden are enjoying their shabbosim more.

Even more important, many people, even those who don't agree with the eruv, are assured that even if they do carry something on shabbos (even unknowingly) they are not being "over" on a lav. This is not including the many unlearned people who used to carry without the eruv.

Mr. Sicherman supports countless worthy causes. He is also very close to his rebbe, the Munkatcher ruv. It so happens that his Rebbe holds strongly of the Eruv and that is reason enough for Mr. Sicherman to support it financially. I think this only shows what a noble person he his. I believe that anyone can appreciate this regardless of your stand on the eruv.

    Neighbors rattled by home invasion

BY VERONIKA BELENKAYA and ALISON GENDAR
    DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

A brazen home invasion robbery by thugs wielding box cutters sent shock waves of concern through a quiet corner of Borough Park yesterday.
"It's very scary. You assume you're safe at home," said a neighbor of the victims. "I hope this is not the start of random crimes here, because it's usually very safe," added the woman, who feared even to give her name.
The thugs forced their way into the home on 54th St. Monday night and made off with $200,000 in cash and jewels, police said.
Wolf Sicherman, 58, and his wife, Sarah, 57, were on the third floor at 9:30 p.m. when the two men wearing ski masks and black jump suits came rushing up the stairs and menaced them with the box cutters, sources said.
The intruders tied up the couple and then ransacked their home, finding the cash and jewels in a safe, sources said. They made their escape in a white SUV.
A police spokesman said there are no recent patterns of home invasion robberies in Borough Park or the surrounding neighborhoods.
One of the thugs in Monday night's robbery may have done some contracting work in the home several months ago, according to a police source.
"This guy heard people in the house talking about cash and jewels kept in a safe. So he tells a friend, and together they hatch a plan to rob it," the source said.
Although shaken up, the victims were not injured, police said. A source said detectives are expecting to make an arrest soon.

Numerous burglaries have occurred and the police have done little or nothing in the public eye to try to catch the perpetrators. We petition you to investigate and talk to the neighbors on the street and not the politicians and police brass. This article is proof of the lack of interest in “human” needs of the neighborhood. The police care about riding their scooters and giving tickets and not protecting the “jews”. The quiet “crimeless” neighborhood can only stay such if the police do their job and not fill Mr. Bloomberg’s coffers by issuing tickets on the eve of a holiday.

Enough said. Now it’s time for “ACTION” on the part of our elected officials to change the 66th Precinct brass to a caring and serving rather then serving by ticketing.

The Boro Park Eiruv has nothing whatsoever to do with this terribly frightening meiseh! Why do some people keep dragging it into every situation that occurs?
If you don't hold of the eiruv- fine. If you do, more power to you! That's it! Stop obsessing and get a life! The Sichermans are lovely people and don't deserve to be badmouthed by loonies like these Eiruv-Nuts! Right before Yom Kippur, too!

You are Obviously an "Am Ha'aretz"
The reason shlomo hamelech was "m'taken" the eiruv is b/c people shouldnt be locked in thier houses.
The reason we say "Metoich" for yom tov is also for the above reason.

My point: Dont get involved in something that you dont know the first thing about it (the same goes for the other anti-eiruv hockers who dont even know one halachah in eiruvin and eiruvin has humdreds or even thousands of halachas)

    In re: to the Sichermans

    Excellent people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you cannot find a person that has anything against them except for the people that dont know them and they just talk out of thier tuches.

to anon at 3:26, your vile language doesn't really show your lomdos and as to the eruv why are so many Rabbonim against it? I'm sure they still know how to learn as well as you do. If they say it is chilul shabbos and you have to be mocheh they probably know something you don't!

Perhaps, especially before Yom Kippur, we should be focusing on our similarities, of which we have many, rather than on our differences.

SHLOMO HAMELECH MADE AN ISSUR TO CARRY WITH OUT A "ERUV CHATZEROS" AND IN YERUSHOLAYIM HE DID NOT MAKE AN ERUV CHATZEROS. SHLOMO HAMELECH WAS SMARTER THAN YOU AND ALL OF THE MUNKATCIES. BELZIES. SHLOMO HAMELECH NEVER & NEVER PERMITED TO MAKE A TZURAS HAPESACH AROUND A RESHUS HARABIM D'ORAYSO.

You sound like a Nazi- they want a world of identical Aryans, or like a Moslem- they want a world of identical practitioners of religion. The Greeks in history killed anyone they considered different and on and on.

If you want total uniformity- perhaps you should shop around at some other religions. Our religion does not demand that we all follow one Rebbe/Rov or Shitah, B"H.
