    Lipa,

Rechov Shefa Chaim is actually quite a dangerous road. The junction across from Hachi Kedai (Rechov Zayis Raanon) is unbearable dangerous.

I'm not sure exactly where the accident happened, but anyone who has been to Israel can tell you that you need Rachamei Shomayim when walking on the streets. Israeli drivers and pedestrians are generally enormously impatient, and completely disregard basic road safety laws.

It's extremely common to see Israeli drivers zoom past a crosswalk as pedestrians are in the midst of crossing. On the corner of Rechov Shefa Chaim and Rechov Zayis Raanon especially, it is difficult for pedestrians who wish to cross towards Rechov Ezras Torah to see if cars are coming around the corner.

Israel has one of the highest fatality rates in the world (proportionally), and nobody seems interested in trying to rectify that.

Chutznikim coming to Israel have to remember that Israeli roads are governed by a different set of rules; i.e. NONE! The police do very little to enforce road etiquette. The only thing that one can do, is to be very cautious when walking the streets of Israel.

I sincerely hope and daven that the girl has a complete recovery. May we be zoiche to a Shana Tova!
