Montreal, Canada - Man Sought in Firebombing of Jewish School
Montreal, Canada - Students returned to class at the orthodox Jewish boys school where two days before a firebomb attack took place, in the early hours of Shabbas morning and left the facility damaged. Police are seeking a masked man captured on a surveillance tape as he lobbed a Molotov cocktail at the school and community centre.
Taldos Yakov Yosef D'Skver Boys school, a school and community centre in the Outremont borough, was firebombed early Shabbas morning, some 20 minutes after 12 school students left the facility as was reported on VOS IZ NEIAS.
The attack caused damages initially estimated in the range of $20,000 to $60,000, and sent ripples of outrage through the Jewish community.
Meanwhile an anonymous donor, described as a French-Canadian businessman, is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
"Our only concern is the safety of the children," said Fred Gestetner school's president, who has considered bringing in counsellors for the children and is looking at increasing security.
"We are shocked with it, but it's something we have to handle in this day and age, I guess."
