Spring Valley, NY - Police Probe Links in Robbery Attempts
Spring Valley, NY - Ramapo and Spring Valley police were investigating possible links between two incidents in which a pair of teenge boys on bicycles tried to rob pedestrians.
In Spring Valley police said that two teens peddled up to a man on Twin Avenue, asked him for the time and then tried to rob him. One showed the victim what appeared to be a pistol wrapped in a shirt. One of the suspects said, "If you don't give us the money, we'll kill you," Spring Valley police Sgt. Peter Russell said.
The victim pulled out a cell phone and said he was calling police and the suspects rode away. Russell said officers with the help of K-9 units spotted them arrested them a short time later.
The boys, both 17, and whose names were withheld by police because of their ages, were charged with two counts of second-degree robbery, a felony. One was also charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
Police were also checking for a possible connections to a similar attempted robbery that occurred at Suzan Place and Elaine Place in Monsey.
In that incident, the victim told police that he was approached by two males riding bicycles at 11 p.m. as he walked down the street. One told him to "turn over his money or he would be shot," Ramapo police Sgt. Mark Briggs said. The victim told the robbers that he had no money. They took a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from the man, then fled east on Elaine Place.
Spring Valley's Russell said other such incidents may have occurred in the area. Anyone with information can call Spring Valley police.
