Maybe if he would have done this before the elecetions, the Republicans would not have lost so badly.

    Good riddance of this egomaniac!

This is a political move to simply retain the presidency by the republicans for '08. And it doesn't end here, there is going to be changes in his future policy on Iraq.

It's a sad day in a America. Rumsfeld was a great Secretary of Defense and should not be resigning. We should all brace ourselves for more terrorist attacks now that the House and probably the Senate will be Democratic. The focus will be on Bush and Bin Laden will be free to plan as he desires.

Besides being totally incompetent as Secretary of Defense, Rumsfeld ensured bills were passed and decisions were made that benefited him financially.

From January 1997 until being sworn in as the 21st Secretary of Defense in Jan 2001, Donald Rumsfeld was CEO of Gilead Sciences Inc. which is the developer and sole patent owner of Tamiflu which is used in the treatment of bird flu.
In November 2005, George W. Bush urged Congress to pass $7.1 billion in emergency funding to prepare for the possible bird flu pandemic, of which one billion is solely dedicated to the purchase, and distribution of Tamiflu.
Federal disclosure forms indicate that Rumsfeld owns between $5 million and $25 million in Gilead stock. Gilead's share prices increased $35 to $57 per share and added between $2.5 million to $15.5 million to Rumsfeld's net worth.
Rumsfeld was also CEO of G.D. Searle & Co., another pharmaceutical company, from 1977 to 1985.

While Rummy made millions of dollars, Americans were and are getting sick from Aspartame (via Searle) and Thimerosol (via Gilead).

I think the next move should be Condy out of the White House. I think she has been way too diplomatic with those who show no diplomacy and has been too soft on terrorists in particular. Get someone really tough in there.

    O.Gevald:
You wrote "...and new Democratic war advisor (Gates) will show you all.."

    He’s a Republican you fool.
Bob Gates is just another good old boy Bushie.
    Some history for you:
Under President George H.W. Bush, he served as Director of Central Intelligence.

He was nominated to become the Director of Central Intelligence in early 1987, but withdrew the nomination after it became clear the Senate would reject it due to controversy about his role in the Iran-Contra affair. Senate members later questioned the nomination for the additional reason that Gates allegedly passed intelligence to Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war.

    Yep, he's a good replacement.
