West Palm Beach, FL - Fatal Bus Accident

West Palm Beach, FL - A motor vehicle accident with one person killed and 11 others injured after a bus carrying senior citizens was hit by a truck.

The bus, operated by a Jewish community center, was traveling in West Palm Beach when it was struck by a Speedy Rooter truck, said Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue spokesman Don DeLucia.
Five bus passengers were taken to the trauma unit at St. Mary's Medical Center, DeLucia said. Police later said one of those passengers, Lillian Starkman, 92, died from her injuries. Seven other passengers were taken to hospitals with less serious injuries.
The bus driver and another passenger were uninjured, DeLucia said.

"It's a little bus route to the store and grocery shopping," said community center spokesman Scott Benarde.

The driver of the Speedy Rooter truck, Humberto Corrales, 59, was not hurt, said Ted White, a spokesman for the West Palm Beach Police Department.
Initial witness reports indicate Corrales may have run a red light when he crashed into the bus, White said.
The investigation is ongoing.
