Chicago - Students Charged With Hate Crimes
Hinsdale, Chicago - Three Hinsdale Central High School students were charged with hate crimes after they allegedly drew anti-Semitic messages, including swastikas, on school property.
The boys, all juveniles, went to the school about 2:30 a.m. and drew the messages on a sign at the football field, school officials and the DuPage County state's attorney's office said.
School spokeswoman Charla Russell said the students are being disciplined, though she would not give details. They were charged in Juvenile Court with hate crimes, criminal damage to property, institutional vandalism and criminal defacement of property. All three were released to their parents.
It was the second time this month in the western suburbs that students were accused of exhibiting swastikas in public places. A Lisle student was suspended for allegedly placing a swastika flag on a Jewish teacher's car.
