Orange County, NY - A black bear spotted romping through Upper Nyack back yards yesterday is believed to be on the move and traveling through Sparkill and Tappan.

Residents reporting sightings described it as a large adult male bear weighing about 350 pounds, Sgt. Robert Ruggiero said. "It's not in any one place," he said, "The animal is very mobile." It was last seen at Washington and Flitt streets in Tappan, he said.

Police notify nearby families about the animal and warn them not to approach or attempt to feed it. Police also alerted the school district's in the area, asking schools to keep students indoors. The bear does not appear to be aggressive so teachers and parents should go about their normal business, but should be cautious, Ruggiero said.
