4 saved from inferno One man jumps from camp roof.

Liberty - Firefighters call it a miracle rescue.
Five people, including a young couple with two toddlers, escaped with their lives early yesterday when an intense, fast-moving fire ripped through a main building at a religious summer camp.

Chesky and Adina Richman of Monsey and their 15-month-old twins, along with another young man, Aryeh Friedman, were asleep on the second floor when the fire broke out at Camp Agudah. The smell of smoke awakened them.
In the dark and smoke, the couple got their children. They and Friedman managed to escape to a second-story roof on the 3½-story building. But there was no way to get down, and they were trapped as the building burned beneath them.
Liberty firefighters got to the camp just four minutes after the 3:31 a.m. call to 911.
"There was so much smoke, you couldn't see the building from the parking lot," fire Chief Lynn Morgan said.
Firefighters threw ladders against the building where the five were stranded, and climbed up to rescue them.
    Mrs. Richman balked.
"She wouldn't come down the ladder at first because she wanted to carry the babies in her arms," said Dick Martinkovic, the county's public safety commissioner. "But you can't do that. She had to hand the babies down."
Morgan said Friedman jumped in the chaos and suffered a broken leg or pelvis when he hit the ground. He was flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

The fire leveled the 9,000-square-foot building in about 45 minutes.
Martinkovic said the 1920s-era wooden building had been renovated a number of times, creating voids and hidden pockets where flame hides.
With the people safe, about 100 firefighters from Liberty, White Sulphur Springs, Neversink, Loch Sheldrake, Livingston Manor, Monticello and Hurleyville trucked in water from village and town hydrants, and provided more firefighters to rotate crews.
"It was a very warm morning, and the adrenaline is flying when there are (trapped) people involved," Morgan said.
By morning, little was left of the main building. A hall just behind it used for prayer and study was badly damaged, but nothing else at the camp was touched.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but doesn't appear suspicious, Morgan said.
By noon yesterday, excavators were already on-site cleaning up the smoldering wreckage.
Amid the damage were dozens of large cans of food, some of the summer supplies that had arrived over the past few days.

The camp is scheduled to open on Wednesday.
"If it had been next week, there would have been a lot more babies in there," said a camp employee who gave only his first name, Eli. "It would have been problematic."

The building housed the camp's kitchen, dining room, offices and some staff quarters.
Camp manager Meir Frischman was already coordinating the job of finding temporary space to replace the burned building and to make up for the ruined supplies.

The Orthodox Jewish religious camp expects about 500 boys, ages 8 and up, to attend this summer.
"We are going to open," said Rabbi Shlomo Gertzulin, vice-president of Agudath Israel of America, the organization that owns this camp and others.
"We've got a lot of good people pitching in to help."

A recording at Agudath Israel's New York City offices said the camp will open on July 3. The camp is asking parents to fill out new paperwork, because the forms were lost in the fire.

Camp Agudah will be stronger and better then ever, Meir will make it an obligation of his to make it more "gishmak" enviornment, including better meals and activities, I also think we parents should not accept the refunds that camp plans to give, they need the cash and they deserve it as well
