Newport, RI - Restoration Lets Historic Synagogue Breathe Again

Newport, RI - Touro Synagogue in Newport is putting the finishing touches on a $2.6 million renovation.

With the project complete, services should resume in the synagogue within weeks, and tourists should be welcomed in again by Memorial Day weekend.

The overhaul is the latest chapter in the synagogue’s long history. Originally designed by renowned architect Peter Harrison, the building is one of only 28 sites covered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
