Kiryas Joel’s Request For Water Towers Rejected
Goshen, NY - An Orange County Legislature oversight committee rejected a request from the Village of Kiryas Joel, Monre, NY to construct two water towers on less than a half-acre of land on the undeveloped county-owned Gonzaga park property.
The village asked County Executive Edward Diana to advance the proposal, which would need state legislative approval. “I brought through a municipal request from a municipality,” he said. The county legislature saw it in their wisdom to vote no.”
Kiryas Joel officials say they needed the additional water pressure for firefighting efforts.
Those who opposed the request said it was contrary to the legislation which gave the property to the county for use exclusively as a park.
