Monsey, NY - Family Panics After 2-Year-Old Turns On Stove

Monsey, NY - A 2-year-old who turned on a stove yesterday morning caused panic in the family and Monsey firefighters to respond to the Joshua Court home on reports of people trapped in a burning kitchen.
Monsey Fire said firefighters were sent to the residence at 10:38 a.m. yesterday originally on reports of an oven fire that was upgraded shortly afterward. When firefighters arrived, they found a home full of smoke and odor, but damage confined to the stove.

He said the toddler apparently turned on the burners of a stovetop grill while there was a plastic plate on it. The plate melted and began to burn, setting the stovetop on fire and sending smoke throughout the home.

The adults in the home originally feared they could not get out of the kitchen because of the smoke and fire, but did escape unharmed by the time firefighters arrived. No one was hurt.
