Airmont, NY - Opponents Concern, Wal-Mart Would Create Traffic Nightmare
Airmont, NY - The traffic impact of a proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter on an already congested portion of Route 59 was the chief concern of residents and officials during a Ramapo Planning Board meeting.
The public session held at Town Hall was attended by more than 50 people seeking to identify which issues needed to be studied and addressed in the proposal's draft environmental impact statement.
Hershel Klara of Monsey said it takes him 20 minutes to drive 6,500 feet from Kennedy Drive to Remsen Avenue along Route 59, a commute he does multiple times a day.
"And that's without a Wal-Mart," he said. "I don't know how I'd do it with a Wal-Mart."
