Williamsburg, Brooklyn. 188-190 Division Ave. 2nd alarm fire on the roof of a 3 floors brick 25 X 25 OMD with a commercial appetizing store on the first floor structure.

Fire Dept. opened the roof, all visible fire K/D at this time, all searches complete and neg. fire is under control.

FD reports that 3 firefighters with minor injuries, they are being treated and transported to the hospital at this time.

Human Rights Commission Created in Sullivan County

Human Rights Commission was formed in Sullivan County to investigate racism that boils over some times in the summer.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn Residents Rally Against Rezoning

Community activists from Greenpoint and Williamsburg in Brooklyn, want city council speaker Gifford Miller to step in to oppose rezoning.

Resident's rallied in front his campaign headquarters for mayor this afternoon, saying they need space that is open to the public not just those who can afford the luxury housing.

Miller's spokesman, says residents should be protesting Mayor Bloomberg instead because the city council speaker agrees the rezoning plan is inadequate.

Bob Kerrey Considering Run for Mayor of New York

Former United States Senator Bob Kerrey, a Democratic candidate for president in 1992, said yesterday that he was considering a run for mayor of New York City, declaring that Michael R. Bloomberg had failed to fight Washington Republican policies that Mr. Kerrey said endangered the city's finances and security.

North Brooklyn's Rezoning Is A Potential Transformation

The Bloomberg administration is working to transform the nearly two miles of North Brooklyn waterfront into the next big residential destination. The rezoning plan, now before the City Council, is ambitious and could provide housing and reclaim an urban wasteland. Before it can do anything, though, the plan needs to ensure that affordable housing is a significant piece of the mix according to Community Councilman David Yassky. Failure to do so could delay development.

Those who oppose the development of the Brooklyn waterfront, like David Yassky, cry for more "affordable housing."
